Indian Sikh Woman Missing in Pakistan Allegedly Converts to Islam, Marries Local

Sarabjit Kaur, 52, a Sikh pilgrim from Kapurthala, Punjab, has allegedly converted to Islam and married a man in Pakistan days after going missing during a religious visit. She was part of a group of 1,992 Sikh pilgrims who crossed the Wagah-Attari border on November 4 to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s 555th Prakash Parv and returned to India on November 13—without her.

A ‘nikahnama’ (Islamic marriage certificate) reportedly shows Kaur married Nasir Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura near Lahore, and adopted the name Noor. The document could not be independently verified. Kaur was divorced and has two sons with her ex-husband, Karnail Singh, who resides in England.

Her passport was issued in Punjab’s Muktsar district, but immigration records show no entry or exit for her, suggesting she disappeared while in Pakistan. Upon her failure to return, the Indian Immigration Department alerted Punjab Police, which has submitted a preliminary report to other agencies. The Indian mission in Pakistan is coordinating with local authorities regarding her disappearance, according to IANS.
