Harbhajan Slams Pakistan Over India Boycott in T20 World Cup
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has taken a swipe at Pakistan over its decision to skip the T20 World Cup group-stage match against India, calling it “political theatre” disguised as solidarity with Bangladesh.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan questioned the logic and timing of the move. “Pakistan says it will play the tournament but not face India. There is no logic to this. This is a drama to mislead people,” he said, adding that Pakistan should face the consequences if it truly stood by its stance.
Harbhajan also highlighted the inconsistency of the boycott, pointing out that Pakistan plays the rest of the tournament while skipping only India. “If you really want to take a principled stand, be adamant. What about your own fans who want to see the India-Pakistan match?”
The controversy began after PCB chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi hinted at withdrawing in solidarity with Bangladesh. Despite the announcement, Pakistan have already travelled to Sri Lanka for their other matches under ICC and BCCI arrangements—reinforcing Harbhajan’s claim that the move is more posturing than principle.
India, meanwhile, will travel as planned. If Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha does not appear for the toss on February 15, India will be awarded a walkover and two points.
