Infosys Seeks Electricity Usage Data From Work-From-Home Staff

Infosys has asked employees working under its hybrid model to share details of their household electricity consumption, as the IT major looks to measure its environmental impact beyond office campuses.

Employees at Infosys currently follow a hybrid work policy that requires them to work from the office for at least 10 days each month, with the remaining days spent working from home.

Part of sustainability reporting

According to The Economic Times, the company has rolled out a work-from-home electricity consumption survey as part of its sustainability reporting framework, which it has been developing for over 15 years.

With hybrid work now a permanent feature, Infosys aims to factor in electricity used during work-from-home hours that contributes to its overall greenhouse gas emissions.

CFO explains rationale

In an email to staff, Infosys Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said the environmental footprint of work no longer ends at office buildings and now extends into employees’ homes.

He noted that electricity consumed during work-from-home hours also forms part of the company’s emissions profile, and that collecting accurate data would help improve the quality and effectiveness of sustainability disclosures.

Sanghrajka added that sustainability at Infosys is seen as a shared responsibility between the company and its workforce.

What the survey asks

The survey seeks information on the use of household electrical appliances such as lights, fans, computers, air conditioners and heaters during working hours. Employees are also asked about lighting wattage, use of solar power at home, and other energy-related practices.

Employees have additionally been invited to share personal initiatives or suggestions to reduce electricity consumption while working from home.
