Iran Accuses US and Israel of ‘State Terrorism’ Over Threats Against Khamenei, Urges UN Intervention.
Iran has formally accused the United States and Israel of engaging in “state terrorism” following public statements that Tehran claims amount to threats to assassinate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Iranian government has called on the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action against what it described as “criminal and provocative rhetoric.”
In a statement issued by Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the country condemned recent remarks by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz and former US President Donald Trump, saying they constitute a direct violation of international law.
“The United States and the Zionist regime of Israel have openly threatened to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader,” the statement read. “This criminal act constitutes a manifest instance of state terrorism, and the gravity of such threats must not be diminished or normalized in any way.”
Citing UN Charter Violations
Iran specifically referenced Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against any state’s territorial integrity or political independence. The Iranian mission argued that such remarks — particularly from high-ranking officials — set a dangerous international precedent and should be condemned as violations of international law.
The statement cited Israel Katz’s comment comparing Khamenei’s fate to that of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. Katz had said that during recent hostilities, Khamenei went into hiding and that, “had he been within reach, we would have taken him out.”
Similarly, Iran criticized Trump for calling Khamenei an “easy target” and for claiming that the U.S. had saved the Supreme Leader from an “ugly and ignominious death.” Iran labelled these statements as “reckless, unlawful, and inciting terrorism.”
Allegations of Broader Aggression
Tehran also accused Israel of launching a large-scale, unprovoked military assault on Iranian territory on June 13, calling it a clear violation of international law. The mission highlighted Israel’s “well-documented history” of targeted assassinations, extraterritorial operations, and military actions — including attacks on Iranian officials, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
“These threats are part of a broader strategy that seeks to normalize assassination as a foreign policy tool,” the statement added. “Such conduct represents blatant contempt for the international legal order.”
Call for UN Response
Iran urged the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly to uphold their legal responsibilities by taking action against what Tehran calls a dangerous erosion of international norms.
“The international community must not remain silent in the face of these escalating violations,” the statement warned. This diplomatic escalation comes amid heightened tensions following the June military exchange and ongoing verbal hostilities between Tehran, Tel Aviv, and Washington.
