Netanyahu Calls Coalition Meeting After Objecting to White House Gaza Panel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday convened a meeting of his ruling coalition after expressing objections to the composition of the White House–backed Gaza Executive Board, officials and media reports said.
The panel, part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi, among other regional and international figures. Netanyahu’s office said the announcement was not coordinated with Israel and contradicts its policy, and instructed Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to raise the issue with the US Secretary of State.
Coalition partners — including Likud, Religious Zionist Party, and Otzma Yehudit — are scheduled to discuss the matter. Analysts suggest Israel’s objection stems largely from Turkey’s role, amid worsening ties since the Gaza war began in October 2023.
The White House plan establishes three bodies: the Board of Peace (chaired by Trump), a Palestinian technocratic committee to govern Gaza, and the Gaza Executive Board, which is advisory. The Palestinian committee held its first meeting in Cairo on Saturday, as the US moves the Gaza truce into a second phase focused on Hamas disarmament.
