‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Joins $1B Club, James Cameron Becomes First Director with Four Blockbusters.

James Cameron’s latest Avatar film, Fire and Ash, has officially crossed $1.03 billion at the global box office, according to Comscore and Box Office Mojo, fueled largely by strong international performance.

The third installment in the franchise continues the story from Avatar: The Way of Water, following Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they mourn the loss of their son. With this, the Avatar series has now earned $6.35 billion worldwide, making Fire and Ash the third-highest-grossing film of 2025, behind Ne Zha 2 and Zootopia 2.

This milestone also cements James Cameron as the first director with four films surpassing $1 billion, joining Titanic (1997) and the previous two Avatar movies. The original Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time at $2.9 billion, while The Way of Water and Titanic each exceeded $2.3 billion.
