JNU Protest Escalates: President Nitish Kumar, 5 Others Booked, 27 Students Detained After Police Clash.

An FIR has been lodged against JNUSU President Nitish Kumar, Vice President Manisha, General Secretary Munteha Fatima, and three other students during a march from Sabarmati Dhaba to Vasant Kunj Police Station, where they were demanding an FIR against ABVP members. A total of 27 students were detained amid the confrontation.

The FIR relates to an earlier violent incident during a General Body Meeting on Dussehra, reflecting mounting tensions between left- and right-wing student groups at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

The confrontation occurred near JNU’s West Gate when police attempted to stop the march, resulting in clashes. Left-wing student groups claimed they were staging a peaceful protest against alleged ABVP violence and police inaction, while accusing police of using force to halt the march. The students also alleged they were beaten during the intervention.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goel said that 70–80 students left the campus around 6 pm intending to gherao the police station. When barricades were erected to stop them, a clash ensued, injuring six security personnel and leading to the detention of 28 students, including the JNUSU President, Vice President, and General Secretary.

The escalation follows violence at a General Body Meeting of the School of Social Sciences on Friday. Left-affiliated groups claimed ABVP members assaulted a woman student and others, while ABVP countered that Left-wing students attacked a female student and others, accusing them of spreading “false stories” and staging drama to portray themselves as victims.
