Ex-US NSA John Bolton Criticises Trump’s India Tariffs, Backs New Delhi’s Cautious Approach.
Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton, a vocal critic of Donald Trump, has slammed the former president’s tariffs on India, saying Trump “has lost the strategic picture.” Bolton praised India’s restrained response to the tariff disputes, noting that the country’s reliance on back-channel diplomacy and avoidance of public confrontations was “the best way to deal” with Trump.
“If you take the bait and get into a public back-and-forth with him, it’s not going to make things any easier,” Bolton said, highlighting India’s measured approach during Trump’s tenure. He also asserted that Trump’s tariffs had “shredded” decades of Western efforts to move India away from its Cold War-era ties with the Soviet Union while addressing the growing threat from China.
About John Bolton:
Bolton served as the US National Security Adviser during Trump’s first term but resigned due to differences with the president over foreign policy. Since then, he has frequently criticised Trump’s international strategies, particularly on trade and strategic alliances.
