K Kavitha Suspended From BRS After Allegations Against Cousin Harish Rao.

Telangana legislator K Kavitha has been suspended from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party led by her father and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), following her public accusations against senior BRS leader and her cousin, T Harish Rao.

BRS leaders T Ravinder Rao and Soma Bharat Kumar said the suspension was due to “recent comments seen as anti-party.” The party added on X, “Recent behaviour and ongoing anti-party activities of MLC K Kavitha are damaging the BRS. Therefore, party President K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to suspend her with immediate effect.”

K Kavitha had accused Harish Rao, along with ex-Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar, of colluding with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to tarnish KCR’s image and benefit personally. She claimed her father would emerge “as pure as a pearl” from the CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.

The suspension has sparked protests from Ms Kavitha’s supporters, including members of Telangana Jagruthi, the social organisation she founded during the statehood agitation.

Tensions between K Kavitha and the BRS leadership have been ongoing. In July, her brother and BRS Working President KT Rama Rao sidelined her in appointing the party in-charge for a key coal miners’ union, adding to speculation about an internal power struggle.

Despite the clashes, Ms Kavitha insists she has “no differences” with KTR and has criticised patriarchal practices in political parties, including the BRS, citing limited opportunities for women candidates.
