Fresh Twist in Sunjay Kapur Estate Row: Karisma Kapoor’s Kids Allege Asset Misappropriation.
The bitter inheritance battle over Sunjay Kapur’s vast estate deepened on Friday, with Karisma Kapoor’s children accusing their stepmother Priya Kapur of “appropriating” assets under a disputed will.
During the Delhi High Court hearing, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur, argued that the confidentiality sought by Priya Kapur was a tool to conceal irregularities. “Confidentiality is a cloak under which you fritter away the assets,” he told the court, insisting the will was “bogus” and had left the children with nothing.
Jethmalani further alleged that two bank accounts had been “wiped clean” and that Priya Kapur had diverted a 6% company stake to herself.
Priya Kapur’s counsel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, countered by urging that details of the assets be submitted in court but not made public. He proposed that parties refrain from discussing the case outside the courtroom.
Justice Jyoti Singh observed that keeping details out of the public domain would protect both sides. She permitted Priya Kapur to file the list of assets in a sealed cover while directing that a copy of the will be shared with Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, on the condition it not be leaked. The original document will remain in the custody of the High Court’s Registrar General.
Rejecting calls for a media gag, Jethmalani stressed the need for transparency: “I need sunlight in this case because I have not been told about the assets.” He also dismissed references to the ₹1,900-crore RK Family Trust—linked to Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur—as irrelevant, saying it has “nothing to do” with his clients’ claim over their father’s personal estate.
The case, involving assets estimated at nearly ₹30,000 crore, continues to pit Priya Kapur against Karisma Kapoor’s children, who maintain that the will in question is fraudulent.
