Delhi HC Continues Hearing on Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 Crore Estate; Children Challenge Will.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday heard further arguments in the ongoing dispute over businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estimated Rs 30,000 crore fortune, a case increasingly resembling a Bollywood drama. At the centre of the controversy is Kapur’s will, which reportedly leaves his entire personal estate to his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. Kapur’s children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan, have challenged the will, claiming it is forged.

During the hearing, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, highlighted inconsistencies in the will and noted that even Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, had been excluded.

“Only Priya Kapur profits from this forged will,” Jethmalani told the court.

He drew attention to unusual details in the document, including the use of feminine pronouns — “she” and “her” — in reference to Sunjay Kapur, calling it incredible that he could have drafted it himself. Jethmalani also questioned why the will was unregistered, making it contestable in court:

“If Sunjay Kapur truly intended to leave all personal assets solely to his wife, he would have registered the will. But he did not.” The hearing, now in its third session, also revisited alleged errors in the will, such as misspelling one son’s name and incorrectly recording the daughter’s address — mistakes described as highly uncharacteristic of Kapur.

Earlier, Jethmalani had compared Priya Kapur to Cinderella’s stepmother, accusing her of being motivated by personal gain:

“She got 60 per cent of the assets and allotted only 12 per cent to her son. She is also getting 75 per cent of the trust, yet remains focused solely on her personal assets.”
