Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the United States over its reported actions against Iran, accusing Washington of engaging in “hooliganism” and acting in ways that undermine the sovereignty of other nations.
Addressing a public function held to inaugurate the first phase of a government-constructed township for landslide survivors, Vijayan alleged that the US was spearheading what he termed “imperialist aggression” against countries it views as adversaries. He claimed such interventions amount to unwarranted interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
The Chief Minister also criticised Israel, describing it as a “rogue state” and a close ally of the US. He questioned the justification for the alleged attacks on Iran and expressed concern over reports that the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had been targeted.
Emphasising principles of international conduct, Vijayan said that just as individuals are expected to treat each other with mutual respect, nations too must adhere to similar standards. No country, he asserted, has the right to insist that others conform to its political views or policies.
He further alleged that nations backed by American military strength, financial influence and arms power appear to expect compliance from the rest of the world. Calling the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family members an extreme act, he described it as a manifestation of American imperialism and condemned Israel for aligning with such actions.
Vijayan urged people to raise their voices in protest against what he described as unjustified aggression.
The Chief Minister also said he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate intervention to safeguard Indians residing in the Middle East amid escalating tensions in the region.
