Rohini Acharya Quits Politics, Cuts Family Ties Amid Deepening RJD Family Feud.
A day after the RJD’s heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya announced that she was quitting politics and severing ties with her family — the most dramatic escalation yet in the party’s long-running internal feud.
In a post on X, Rohini wrote:
“I’m quitting politics, and I’m disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do, and I’m taking all the blame.”
Her statement pointed directly at Tejashwi Yadav’s close aide, Sanjay Yadav, and her husband Rameez Alam, suggesting that both played a role in her decision.
Rift Months in the Making
Rohini, a doctor and former RJD leader, had shown visible signs of estrangement for months. She unfollowed the RJD, Lalu Prasad, and Tejashwi Yadav on X well before the polls. She had also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Saran, where she lost to the BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy by a sizable margin.
Since then, she has posted a series of emotional and cryptic messages aimed at the party leadership and, at times, her younger brother Tejashwi. Much of the friction stemmed from controversy surrounding her 2022 kidney donation to her father — and the rumours questioning whether she had actually donated it. Rohini publicly challenged critics to prove their claims.
Sanjay Yadav at Centre of Storm
The flashpoint, many believe, was the growing influence of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, regarded as Tejashwi Yadav’s most trusted strategist.
Rohini had publicly expressed displeasure during the RJD’s Bihar Adhikar Yatra, reacting to a photo of Sanjay Yadav sitting in the front seat of the party’s campaign bus. Though she didn’t name him, the message was unmistakable.
Family criticism and trolling followed, accusing her of harbouring political ambitions — further widening the rift.
Her elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav, recently expelled from the RJD, openly backed her, even invoking religious imagery to defend her against detractors. Tej Pratap has also accused Sanjay Yadav of engineering his downfall, calling him a “Jaichand”. With pressure building, speculation is growing about potential action against the MP.
BJP Weighs In
The BJP seized upon the crisis. Party leader Neeraj Kumar said the Yadav family was “sacrificing relations” to protect Tejashwi’s political ambitions.
“The daughter who donated her kidney to Lalu Yadav is now being pushed out of both the family and the party,” he said. “After the brother was cast out, now the sister faces the same fate.”
A Family Feud Deepening by the Month
The turmoil comes on the heels of Tej Pratap Yadav’s expulsion earlier this year, after he publicly claimed a 12-year relationship with Anushka Yadav while his divorce case was ongoing. Lalu dismissed him from the party for six years and cut personal ties, calling his behaviour irresponsible.
With Rohini now declaring she has disowned her family, the already fragile Yadav household is witnessing its deepest rupture yet — a political “pari-war” that has spilled into the open and shows no signs of easing.
