Central security agencies have sounded a high alert following intelligence inputs about a possible terror threat in the national capital.

That key religious sites, including areas around the historic Red Fort in Delhi, may be on the radar of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to the inputs, there is concern about a potential improvised explosive device (IED) attack. A temple in the Chandni Chowk area has also been identified as a possible target, prompting enhanced security deployment in and around Old Delhi. Police and intelligence units are said to be conducting coordinated surveillance and frisking operations in sensitive pockets.

Sources further indicated that prominent temples in other cities are being reviewed as part of precautionary measures. However, officials have not confirmed any specific or imminent threat, stating that the alert is based on intelligence assessments and standard preventive protocols.

The heightened vigil comes months after a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort area on November 10, 2025, when an explosives-laden vehicle detonated close to Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, leading to multiple casualties and injuries. Authorities have urged the public to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious objects or activities, assuring that adequate security arrangements are in place to safeguard critical and religious sites.
