Brian Lara Praises West Indies’ Fighting Spirit After Delhi Test.
West Indies legend Brian Lara shared a heartfelt message about the team after attending the second Test against India at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He lauded the squad’s resilience and fighting spirit, particularly their comeback after being bowled out for 248 in the first innings.
The Caribbean side bounced back with 390 in the second innings, featuring centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope, setting India a modest target of 121. Posting on Instagram, Lara reflected on his experience with the team and the challenges they face. “Being with the players gave me a deeper understanding of their reality. They’re not just going through the motions—they’re looking for ways to lift themselves and the team,” he wrote.
He urged Cricket West Indies (CWI) to involve former legends more closely to mentor the current squad. Highlighting the influence of Sir Vivian Richards, Lara said, “Seeing legends around, whether at home or away, sends a simple message: we believe in you. It can inspire breakthroughs.”
Lara concluded by thanking fellow legends, CWI, and India for their hospitality. “Wearing the burgundy that runs deep in our hearts was an honour. Congrats @johnbramz @shaidhope—proud of your performances,” he wrote.
At stumps on Day 4, India were 63/1 chasing 121, with KL Rahul (25*) and Sai Sudharsan (30*) steady at the crease. West Indies’ 10th-wicket pair of Greaves (50) and Jayden Seales (32) had earlier added a defiant 79-run stand before Jasprit Bumrah ended the innings.
