LPG Price Hike: Domestic Cylinder Becomes Dearer by ₹29, Check Updated Rates

Domestic cooking gas consumers will now have to pay more as oil marketing companies have increased the price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder by ₹29, effective June 7, 2026. This marks the second hike in domestic LPG rates in just three months.

After the revision, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen to ₹942 from ₹913, according to PTI, citing industry sources.

Second hike in three months

The latest increase comes amid continued pressure on state-owned fuel retailers due to elevated global energy prices and rising import costs. Earlier, LPG prices were raised by ₹60 per cylinder on March 7 following a spike in international energy rates triggered by geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Industry sources said earlier price adjustments were insufficient to fully offset losses on subsidised domestic LPG sales.

Why LPG prices have gone up

Before the latest revision, oil marketing companies were reportedly incurring losses of around ₹703 per domestic LPG cylinder. Despite periodic price increases, firms continue to face pressure from volatile global crude oil markets and high import costs.

Officials have also indicated that the government has so far avoided passing the full burden of global price fluctuations on to consumers.

Broader fuel price impact

The LPG hike is part of a wider trend of rising fuel costs. Since mid-May, petrol and diesel prices have increased by a cumulative ₹7.50 per litre, while CNG rates have gone up by around ₹6 per kg.

According to PTI, oil marketing companies are still selling petrol and diesel below cost, resulting in losses of about ₹11 per litre on petrol and ₹33.6 per litre on diesel.
