Madhoo Recalls ‘Yeshwant’ Shoot Incident, Says Nana Patekar Slapped Her During Scene, She Reacted Instinctively
Actor Madhoo has spoken about an intense and unexpected moment during the filming of the 1997 drama Yeshwant, revealing that an emotionally charged scene with co-star Nana Patekar turned physically real on set.
In an interview, Madhoo said the sequence required her character to break down emotionally as Nana Patekar’s wife. While she expected to rely on conventional acting techniques, she claims the situation escalated when the scene became more intense than rehearsed.
‘It Was a Real Slap,’ Says Madhoo
Madhoo recalled that she had prepared to use glycerin to simulate tears, but Nana Patekar insisted she deliver a more natural emotional performance. She said the turning point came when he unexpectedly slapped her during the take to trigger a genuine reaction.
“He slapped me for real and very hard. I had not expected it at all,” Madhoo said, adding that the shock led to immediate tears on camera. Reacting instinctively, she said she slapped him back in the same moment, describing it as a reflex response in the heat of the scene.
Scene Finished Ahead of Schedule
Madhoo added that the sequence was originally planned as a full-day shoot but was completed much earlier due to the intensity of the performances. According to her, the raw emotions captured in the moment made additional takes unnecessary, and the team wrapped the scene in roughly half a day.
‘Very Intense But Professional Set’
Reflecting on the experience, Madhoo said Nana Patekar’s working style was extremely immersive and often pushed co-actors beyond comfort zones. She noted that he preferred staying in character throughout the shoot and encouraged emotionally authentic performances, even if it meant uncomfortable moments on set.
Despite the incident, Madhoo clarified that she did not view it as personal disrespect and acknowledged that he remained focused on performance rather than hostility.
Work Front
Madhoo was last seen in the 2025 mythological film Kannappa and will next appear in the historical drama Governor: The Silent Saviour, scheduled for theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
