Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has ignited a political firestorm with her provocative comments on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that his head should be “chopped off” for failing to curb illegal immigration from Bangladesh.

Speaking to reporters in Nadia district, Bengal, Moitra insisted that border security is the responsibility of the Home Ministry, and Shah cannot shift the blame onto the TMC government ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. A video of her remarks in Bengali has gone viral, triggering strong condemnation from the BJP, and a formal complaint has been filed against the Krishnanagar MP.

“He keeps talking about infiltrators, infiltrators, infiltrators. The border is protected by forces under the Home Ministry,” Moitra said.

Both Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have repeatedly accused Mamata Banerjee’s government of facilitating infiltration, claiming these migrants form a key part of her vote bank. The issue was also highlighted by PM Modi during his Independence Day address, when he announced the setting up of a demography mission to address infiltration concerns.

Moitra added, “On August 15, PM Modi spoke about infiltrators causing demographic changes, yet his Home Minister, sitting in the front row, was smiling and clapping. If no one is protecting India’s borders while hundreds of thousands enter daily, eyeing our mothers and sisters and grabbing our land, then Amit Shah’s head should be cut off and placed on the table.”
