Delhi Man Arrested for Attempting Cyber Fraud Using Baba Siddiqui’s Identity.

Mumbai Police have arrested a man from Delhi for allegedly attempting to activate a mobile number in the name of late politician Baba Siddiqui to carry out cyber fraud. The accused, who already has previous cybercrime cases registered against him, used forged documents and a fake letterhead of the Siddiqui family’s business to support his request.

Fraud Attempt Triggered Telecom Alert
The attempted fraud came to light when a telecom provider received an email, purportedly from Siddiqui’s daughter Shehzeen Siddique, requesting authorisation to activate the mobile number. The email included Aadhaar, PAN, and GST documents, along with a forged company letterhead, and was CC’d to Dr. Arshiya Siddique, raising red flags.

The Siddiqui family was alerted, and upon verification, it was confirmed that the documents were falsified. A complaint was promptly filed by Dr. Arshiya at the Bandra Police Station.

Ongoing Investigation
Based on technical analysis and digital tracking, Mumbai Police traced the origin of the fraudulent request to Delhi, leading to the arrest of the accused. Officials suspect he intended to misuse the activated number for impersonation or financial fraud. Further investigation is underway to determine if others were involved.

Background: Siddiqui Family Targeted Again
The case has sparked concern as it comes months after the murder of Baba Siddiqui. The former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader was shot dead on October 18 last year near his son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office in Bandra. Three men — Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap, Gurmail Baljit Singh, and Pravin Lonkar — were arrested in connection with the killing.

Police are not ruling out a possible link between the cyber fraud attempt and the family’s political or personal history, though no direct connection has been established yet.
