Two Assam Rifles Jawans Killed in Ambush in Manipur’s Bishnupur District.
Two personnel of the Assam Rifles were killed and several others injured after unidentified gunmen ambushed a security convoy near Nambol Sabal Leikai in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday evening.
The attack took place around 5:50 pm when a vehicle carrying personnel of the 33 Assam Rifles was moving from Imphal towards Bishnupur. The injured soldiers were taken to nearby hospitals, with one reported to be in critical condition.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the ambush, calling it a “cruel blow” to the state. “The loss of two jawans and injuries to several others is deeply saddening. The perpetrators must face the harshest punishment,” he said, offering condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
Following the attack, security forces launched a massive search operation in the area to track down those responsible. Reinforcements have been rushed to the site, though details of the assailants remain unclear.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in Manipur, which has witnessed recurring bouts of violence and unrest since last year.
