India Urges Bangladesh to Bring Lynching Suspects of Dipu Chandra Das to Justice

Following protests outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Sunday said India has urged Bangladesh to ensure justice for Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man lynched in Mymensingh.

Jaiswal clarified that the protest involved 20-25 people raising slogans in front of the High Commission and that no attempt was made to breach security. “India continues to closely monitor the situation in Bangladesh and has conveyed strong concerns over attacks on minorities. We have urged that the perpetrators of Das’s brutal killing be brought to justice,” he said.

Addressing misleading media reports, Jaiswal added, “The protest was peaceful, and the police dispersed the group within minutes. India remains committed to ensuring the safety of foreign missions, in line with the Vienna Convention.”

The Lynching of Dipu Chandra Das
Dipu Chandra Das, 27, a garment factory worker, was killed by a mob in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, following allegations of blasphemy. He was tied, beaten, and set on fire publicly.

However, Mohd Samsuzzaman, Company Commander of the Rapid Action Battalion, told The Daily Star that no evidence was found that Das had committed blasphemy, and local witnesses did not report seeing or hearing anything offensive. Officials said Das was forced out of his workplace amid volatile conditions and was attacked afterward.

Arrests and Investigation
The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested seven suspects: Md Limon Sarkar, Md Tarek Hossain, Md Manik Mia, Ershad Ali, Nijum Uddin, Alomgir Hossain, and Md Miraj Hossain Akon.
Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mymensingh, confirmed a case has been filed, and three individuals are under interrogation.

India continues to press Bangladesh for accountability while keeping a close watch on minority safety and law-and-order developments in the country.
