MI vs KKR: Suryakumar Yadav Named Impact Sub, Rohit Sharma in Playing XI
India T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav will be Mumbai Indians’ Impact Sub, while former captain Rohit Sharma takes his spot in the playing XI for their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. Last season, Rohit had featured as an Impact Substitute in several games.
Hardik Pandya, Mumbai’s skipper, won the toss and opted to bowl. With Suryakumar on the bench, he’s expected to be an X-factor during the chase.
Mumbai handed debuts to Afghanistan spinner AM Ghazanfar, along with Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford. Ryan Rickelton was preferred over Quinton de Kock after his 388-run season, and Trent Boult completes the overseas quota. The bowling unit will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, supported by Boult, Shardul, and spinners Mayank Markande and Ghazanfar.
“Looks like a good track, a bit greener than usual. This is our fortress, and we hope to entertain the crowd. The boys have had enough preparation,” said Hardik.
KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane noted: “I’ve never seen so much grass at Wankhede.” The Knight Riders include three overseas debutants: Finn Allen opens, while Cameron Green and Blessing Muzarabani join the XI. Sunil Narine is the fourth overseas player, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi keeps wickets. Kartik Tyagi is among the Impact Player options.
Historically, Mumbai have dominated KKR, winning 24 of 35 encounters. At Wankhede, MI leads 10-2, though KKR has won two of the last three meetings since 2024.
