Michael Vaughan Warns England Could Face 5-0 Ashes Defeat.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has sounded the alarm over England’s Ashes campaign, warning that the team could face a complete 5-0 whitewash if they don’t turn things around quickly. Ben Stokes’ side is already 0-2 down after the first two Tests, and Vaughan fears the situation could get much worse.

Despite a promising start in the Day-Night Test at the Gabba, England collapsed in the second innings, setting Australia a mere 65-run target, which the hosts chased in just 10 overs. The collapse exposed technical flaws and the mental fragility that has plagued the team throughout the tour.

Speaking to BBC Cricket, Vaughan said:
“I hate to say it, but if England are not careful, this could be 5-0. I haven’t seen enough from England to suggest they can win a game yet. The players are talented, but they must improve quickly or things will get a lot worse.”

Batting Concerns and Selection Challenges

Vaughan singled out Ollie Pope, questioning his No. 3 position due to repeated struggles against Australia. He suggested bold changes, including the possible inclusion of Jacob Bethell or a reshuffle with Stokes at three and Jacks at six.

Historical Context

A 0-5 whitewash is rare but not unprecedented for England, occurring in 1920-21, 2006-07, and 2013-14. Australia, meanwhile, has never suffered a series whitewash.

With the third Test in Adelaide approaching, Vaughan says England must use the break to regroup mentally and technically—or risk another historic defeat.
