PM Modi Ends Canada Visit with Diplomatic Reset, Strong G7 Message on Terror, Sustainability.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his first visit to Canada in a decade, calling it a “productive” engagement that advanced bilateral ties and highlighted India’s global priorities at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis.
Diplomatic Breakthrough with Canada
In a significant thaw, PM Modi held a “positive and constructive” meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, aimed at repairing relations strained by past tensions under former PM Justin Trudeau. Both sides agreed to fully restore diplomatic ties and appoint new high commissioners, signalling a renewed chapter in India-Canada relations.
G7 Address: Terrorism, Clean Energy, and Global South Leadership
At the G7 Summit, Modi emphasized India’s commitment to clean energy, citing initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuels Alliance, and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. He also delivered a strong message on terrorism, thanking G7 leaders for condemning the recent Pahalgam terror attack and calling for united global action against terror sponsors.
PM Modi also spoke as a voice for the Global South, advocating for fair access to technology, global governance reforms, and responsible use of artificial intelligence. “India remains committed to peace, sustainability, and the global fight against terrorism,” Modi posted on X after the summit.
The visit reinforced India’s influential role in global diplomacy and marked a turning point in relations with Canada.
