Mohsin Naqvi declines to present Asia Cup trophy, tells India captain to pick it up in person: Report
Mohsin Naqvi refuses to hand over Asia Cup trophy, tells India captain to collect it personally.
Dubai: PCB chief and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi has refused to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India, instead directing India captain Suryakumar Yadav to collect it in person from the ACC office, Pakistani media reported on September 30.
The controversy began at the Asia Cup final on Sunday, when the Indian team, having defeated Pakistan, waited over an hour on stage while ACC officials reportedly took the trophy and medals away. BCCI had requested the Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman present the trophy instead, citing geopolitical sensitivities, but Naqvi rejected the request.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia called Naqvi’s actions “unsportsmanlike” and demanded that the trophy and medals be returned to India. Two days after the final, during an ACC meeting in Dubai, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla again pressed Naqvi, who reiterated that the Indian captain must collect the trophy personally.
No final decision has been made, and BCCI officials attending virtually reportedly suggested the trophy be transferred to ICC headquarters.
