Duplantis Sets 13th Pole Vault World Record with 6.29m in Budapest.

Armand “Mondo” Duplantis extended his dominance in pole vault by breaking the world record for the 13th time, clearing 6.29m at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on Tuesday. The Swedish star, a double Olympic champion, added a single centimetre to his own mark set in Stockholm in June.

Challenged by Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, both cleared 6.02m on their first tries before Karalis bowed out at 6.11m. Duplantis cleared 6.11m on his second attempt, then nailed 6.29m on his second try despite brushing the bar, sparking jubilant celebrations with his partner Desire Inglander and family. Australia’s Kurtis Marschall was third with 5.82m.

Duplantis first broke the record in 2020 and has since pushed the event to unprecedented heights. He next competes at the Silesia Diamond League on Saturday, where he set a world record last year. In other events, Femke Bol of the Netherlands dominated the women’s 400m hurdles in 52.24 seconds, while Marie-Josée Ta Lou Smith of Côte d’Ivoire won the women’s 100m in 10.97 ahead of Jamaica’s Tina Clayton and Shericka Jackson. Sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finished fourth in 11.07.
