Messi Shines in Mumbai, Fadnavis Hails City as the ‘Real GOAT Crowd’
Mumbai delivered a spectacular show during the GOAT Tour at Wankhede Stadium on December 14, with Lionel Messi, Sunil Chhetri, and Sachin Tendulkar sharing the stage. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised the city’s fans on Twitter: “Thank you Mumbai, you are the real G.O.A.T crowd!”
Unlike the chaotic event in Kolkata, where frustrated fans vandalised the stadium, Mumbai’s audience remained disciplined and respectful, cheering Messi throughout. The football legend played passes with children, participated in a friendly penalty shootout, and exchanged jerseys with Chhetri and Tendulkar, creating a memorable evening for everyone.
During the event, Fadnavis announced Project Mahadev, a grassroots football initiative, but faced boos from some fans. He quickly regained control by leading a “Ganapati Bappa Morya” chant, calming the crowd and ensuring the event ended smoothly.
Messi will next visit New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attend another event at Arun Jaitley Stadium as part of his India tour.
