In a chilling case that stunned the nation, a new development emerged in the murder of former merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput in Meerut.
Muskan Rastogi, Saurabh’s wife and the prime accused in the case, has been confirmed to be 5-7 weeks pregnant. Muskan, currently lodged in jail along with her alleged accomplice and lover Sahil Shukla, underwent a medical examination after displaying symptoms of pregnancy. Authorities, acting as a precautionary measure, conducted an ultrasound at the local medical college. The report confirmed her pregnancy and suggested she was already carrying the child before the murder occurred.
Senior Jail Superintendent Dr Viresh Raj Sharma confirmed the findings. After initial tests indicated pregnancy, Muskan was taken for an ultrasound. The results confirmed she is five to seven weeks pregnant, he stated, adding that female inmates undergo routine health screenings upon entry, and Muskan’s case followed that standard protocol.
With the murder taking place on March 3, the ultrasound findings suggest conception occurred weeks prior – well before the crime was committed. While the official cause and timeline are yet to be verified by investigating agencies, the report adds a complex layer to an already disturbing case.
Muskan and Sahil Shukla allegedly conspired to murder Saurabh by drugging him and then stabbing him to death in their Indiranagar home in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. The brutal nature of the crime and the subsequent arrest of the couple drew widespread public attention.
The revelation of Muskan’s pregnancy now raises fresh questions: Was the murder premeditated to pave the way for a life with her lover? Who is the father of the unborn child – Saurabh, or Sahil?
Saurabh’s grieving family, meanwhile, responded to the development with a mix of sorrow and resolve. Bablu Rajput, Saurabh’s brother, stated to the media, “If the child is my brother’s, we will adopt and raise him. That’s our blood.”
As of now, Muskan’s family has remained silent on the issue. Jail sources noted that while Sahil’s grandmother, Pushpa, has visited him twice and brought clothes and fruits, Muskan has not received a single visitor from her side of the family since her arrest.
In light of her pregnancy, jail authorities have exempted Muskan from physical labour duties and assured continued medical care throughout her confinement.
