‘The Heartbreak of Shouldering My Best Friend’: Sona Comstar CEO Bids Emotional Farewell to Sunjay Kapur,
Vivek Vikram Singh, CEO of Sona Comstar, shared a moving tribute on social media following the death of his close friend and industrialist Sunjay Kapur, who passed away on June 12 in London after suffering a heart attack during a polo match. Kapur’s funeral was held in New Delhi on June 19.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Singh reflected on the profound personal loss:
“Yesterday, I had the heartbreak of shouldering my best friend on his final journey — a man who was always prouder of my achievements than I ever was. If everyone had even one such friend, the world would be a kinder, better place. May you rest in peace, Sunjay.”
Singh’s tribute was in response to an earlier post from November 2024, in which Kapur had praised Singh’s leadership at Sona Comstar:
“So proud of you, Vivek! It was great to be there to share this moment with you. A well-deserved recognition for your leadership at Sona Comstar. Congrats, once again, and more power to you!”
Who Was Sunjay Kapur?
A prominent name in the Indian auto industry, Sunjay Kapur served as the Chairman of Sona Comstar Ltd., a global automotive technology company. He also held key industry roles, including:
- Chairman, CII Northern Region
- Co-Chair, CII Manufacturing Council
- Former President, ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association)
Kapur was the first Indian to become Global Chairman of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, a prestigious global network of business leaders.
Known for his sharp intellect, love of fitness, and deep passion for polo, Kapur was a strong advocate for expanding access to the sport in India. It was during a polo match—the game he loved—that he tragically collapsed.
As industry colleagues and friends mourn his loss, Singh’s tribute captures not just the professional admiration Kapur commanded, but the personal connection that defined their friendship.
