The cancellation of NEET UG 2026 over alleged paper leak claims has sparked uncertainty among lakhs of medical aspirants, with students seeking clarity on the re-exam process and admission timeline.
From exam fees and admit cards to syllabus and counselling schedules, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has now addressed several frequently asked questions related to the cancelled examination.
Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?
The National Testing Agency cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 after allegations emerged that the paper had been leaked before the test.
Investigations by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) reportedly found that a “guess paper” circulated among candidates closely matched the actual examination paper. Reports claimed nearly 120 questions — including 90 from Biology and 30 from Chemistry — were identical to the final paper, raising concerns over the fairness of the exam.
Following inputs from law enforcement agencies, the Union government ordered a detailed probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after which the NTA formally scrapped the examination.
Will Candidates Have To Pay The Fee Again?
No. The NTA has clarified that students will not be required to pay any additional examination fee for the re-test.
Will Previously Paid Fees Be Refunded?
Yes. According to the NTA, the fees already paid by candidates for the cancelled examination will be refunded.
Is Fresh Registration Required?
No.
The NTA said all registration details submitted earlier — including candidate information, uploaded documents, and selected exam cities — will remain valid for the re-examination. Students will not have to fill out forms again.
Will The NEET UG 2026 Syllabus Change?
No changes have been announced.
The re-exam will be conducted on the basis of the same syllabus that was originally notified for NEET UG 2026, as the examination remains part of the same admission cycle.
Will The Exam Pattern Be Different?
The overall structure of the examination is expected to remain unchanged, including:
Subjects covered
Number of questions
Duration of the paper
Marking scheme
However, the NTA may introduce tighter security measures at examination centres. These could include stricter frisking, enhanced biometric verification, increased surveillance, revised paper handling procedures, and earlier reporting timings.
Will Old Admit Cards Be Valid?
No.
The admit cards issued for the cancelled May 3 examination will not be accepted. Fresh admit cards will be issued for the re-exam.
When Will The Re-Exam Be Held?
The NTA has said that the revised examination date will be announced shortly.
Will Counselling And Admissions Be Delayed?
A delay now appears unavoidable.
Since the entire examination process will have to be repeated — including answer key release, result declaration, merit list preparation, and counselling — admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and private medical colleges are expected to be pushed back.
The revised counselling and admission schedule will depend on how quickly the re-exam is conducted and evaluated.
