Nepal’s Gen Z to Launch Political Party Ahead of 2026 Elections.

Nepal’s youth-led Gen Z group on Saturday announced plans to form a political party, aiming to unite young voices nationwide. The group clarified it will only contest next year’s general elections if certain “bottom-line” conditions, including electoral reforms and voting rights for citizens abroad, are met.

Gen Z played a pivotal role in protests against corruption and government social media restrictions, which ultimately led to the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Leader Miraj Dhungana outlined the party’s priorities, including establishing a citizen-led corruption oversight committee and implementing economic reforms. He also highlighted the need to boost domestic production, reopen closed industries, create jobs, and promote tourism. Suggestions are being collected for the party’s name.

The House of Representatives elections are scheduled for March 5, 2026, following the formation of an interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

Protests Sparked by Gen Z
Last month, widespread youth protests against the Oli government escalated into deadly clashes on September 8, leaving at least 19 people dead. Even after Oli’s resignation, demonstrators—mostly Gen Z—continued protests, targeting government buildings, party offices, and senior leaders’ residences.

The new party reflects the growing political assertiveness of Nepal’s younger generation, determined to demand accountability, transparency, and economic reform ahead of the 2026 elections.
