Nicaragua arrests 60 people for supporting Maduro’s capture.
Authorities in Nicaragua have detained at least 60 people for allegedly celebrating or expressing support for the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, human rights groups and local media reported. President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, strong allies of Maduro, reportedly ordered a state of alert after the operation, with increased surveillance in neighborhoods and online.
The NGO Blue and White Monitoring said 49 detainees remain in custody without legal clarity, while nine have been released and three were temporarily held. The arrests were reportedly carried out without judicial orders, targeting individuals for social media posts, private celebrations, or refusal to follow official narratives.
Independent outlets Confidencial and La Prensa confirmed that many detentions were linked to support for the U.S. operation.
