Kim Jong Un Unveils Restored Warship, Vows Expansion of Naval Fleet.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the relaunch of a 5,000-ton warship on Thursday that had previously suffered damage during its initial launch attempt, state-run KCNA reported Friday. The destroyer, which partially capsized in May, was quickly ordered to be repaired by Kim, who condemned the incident as a “criminal act.” Satellite imagery later confirmed extensive restoration work. Kim had set a June deadline for its relaunch, ahead of a key political meeting.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kim praised the restoration as a demonstration of national resolve and military readiness. He announced that two additional 5,000-ton destroyers would be constructed next year, as part of North Korea’s efforts to expand its naval presence in the Pacific.

“The setback did not delay our progress,” Kim said, adding that North Korea must continue strengthening its maritime defense amid what he described as increasing provocations from the United States and its allies.

“Our enemies will soon learn how uncomfortable it is to watch the ships of an adversary operating near their own waters,” Kim said. “Our warships will soon chart routes into the Pacific, heading toward key points of enemy presence.”

The ceremony highlights North Korea’s renewed focus on maritime power, following its recent emphasis on ballistic missile development and nuclear weapons. Regional tensions remain high, with neighboring countries closely monitoring Pyongyang’s military moves.
