World Champion Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested in Alleged Domestic Incident at Seattle Airport.

Reigning 100-meter world champion Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend for her alleged involvement in a domestic incident with fellow sprinter Christian Coleman at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

According to a police report obtained by the Associated Press, Richardson was taken into custody on Sunday on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense. She was booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) jail in Des Moines, Washington, at 6:54 p.m. and released the following afternoon around 1:13 p.m.

The 25-year-old athlete was back on the track Thursday, competing in the opening round of the women’s 100 meters at the U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. As the defending world champion, Richardson already holds an automatic qualification for the world championships scheduled for September in Tokyo.

USA Track and Field (USATF) acknowledged the reports but declined to comment. Richardson’s agent also did not respond to media inquiries.

According to the report, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) supervisor alerted airport police about a disturbance between Richardson and Coleman. Surveillance footage reviewed by an officer reportedly showed Richardson grabbing Coleman’s backpack and pulling it away, then blocking his path. Coleman appeared to be shoved into a wall during the interaction. Richardson allegedly threw an item—believed to be a pair of headphones—at him.

The report further noted that Coleman did not wish to press charges or participate in the investigation. “I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim,” the officer wrote.

Richardson’s arrest marks the latest in a series of high-profile controversies. She missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana following her victory at the U.S. Olympic trials. However, she rebounded strongly, winning gold in the 100 meters at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest and earning silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she also contributed to a gold-medal finish in the women’s 4x100m relay.
