Pakistan Endorses China’s Mediation Claim During Op Sindoor

Pakistan has backed China’s assertion that it played a mediating role during the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict that led to Operation Sindoor. At a press briefing on Thursday, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Chinese leaders were “in constant touch” with Pakistan and had also contacted Indian officials between May 6–10, and possibly before and after.

“These positive diplomatic exchanges helped reduce tensions and maintain regional peace. The Chinese characterization of mediation is correct,” Andrabi added.

Delayed Statement Raises Eyebrows
This is Pakistan’s first official acknowledgment of Beijing’s alleged role, after previously crediting the U.S.—specifically President Donald Trump—for the pause in hostilities. India, meanwhile, has maintained that the ceasefire followed a request from Pakistan’s DGMO, rejecting any third-party involvement, including China’s.

Andrabi described Pakistan’s support for China as “diplomacy for peace, prosperity, and security,” aligning with other international efforts during those critical days. China’s claim echoes repeated U.S. statements that Washington played a decisive role in ending the confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
