Actor Priya Marathe, Known for Pavitra Rishta, Passes Away at 38 After Cancer Battle
Actor Priya Marathe, celebrated for her role in the popular television show Pavitra Rishta and numerous Marathi films, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 38.
Reports indicate that Marathe had been fighting cancer for the past year. Despite undergoing treatment, her condition gradually worsened, and she passed away at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai.
A Quiet Presence on Social Media
During her treatment, Priya largely stayed away from social media. Her last Instagram post dates back to 2024, when she shared pictures from her visit to Amer Fort in Jaipur with her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe. Prior to that, she had posted a stunning photo of herself in a traditional nauvari saree and nath.
A Distinguished Career
Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Priya Marathe became a beloved figure in both Marathi television and cinema. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Varsha in Pavitra Rishta, a role that made her a household name. She also earned acclaim for her performances as Vidya Bali in Kasamh Se and Jyoti Malhotra in Bade Acche Lagte Hain, both under the Balaji Telefilms banner.
Beyond drama, Priya displayed her versatility as an actor and stand-up performer, captivating audiences with her charm and energy. Her extensive body of work includes shows such as Char Divas Sasuche, Tu Tithe Mi, Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji, Ya Sukhano Ya, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap. She was also part of the first season of Comedy Circus.
In 2023, Priya stepped away from the Marathi show Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe citing health concerns. She remained out of the public eye afterward, during which time it became apparent she was undergoing treatment for cancer.
