Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty in New Delhi on Friday and praised President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s key role in mediating the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
PM Modi commended Egypt’s leadership in facilitating dialogue between Israel and Hamas, calling Cairo’s efforts vital to restoring calm and advancing peace in the region. He expressed hope that the truce would create the foundation for long-term stability and humanitarian relief in Gaza.
Dr Abdelatty briefed the Prime Minister on the outcomes of the first India–Egypt Strategic Dialogue, which focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, energy, and technology. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding people-to-people engagement.
In a post on X, PM Modi said: “Pleased to receive Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr Badr Abdelatty. Conveyed deep appreciation for my friend, President Sisi, for his crucial role in the Gaza Peace Agreement. The India–Egypt Strategic Partnership continues to grow from strength to strength for the benefit of our people, our shared region and humanity.”
The meeting followed the recent Gaza Peace Summit hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh, which brought together global and regional leaders to discuss mechanisms for sustaining the ceasefire. India, invited by President Sisi, was represented by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh.
Modi and Abdelatty also reviewed the progress of key bilateral initiatives and discussed ways to enhance collaboration in renewable energy, defence production, digital technologies, and cultural exchanges, reaffirming India and Egypt’s shared vision for peace, prosperity, and global cooperation.
