Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday delivered a strong response to Washington’s decision to impose a 50 per cent tariff on several Indian goods, set to take effect from August 26.

Speaking at a rally in Ahmedabad, Modi described the move as a reflection of “economic selfishness” in global trade policies. He asserted that India would remain firm against such protectionist measures and prioritise the welfare of its citizens.

Addressing small traders, farmers, cattle rearers and entrepreneurs, the Prime Minister assured, “Your interests are my foremost priority. My government will not allow any harm to small businesses or farmers.”
