Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Saturday flagged.
What he called a breakdown of law and order in the state after miscreants allegedly hurled country-made bombs at a police vehicle on the Trichy–Chennai highway. Taking to X, Palaniswami said the incident occurred near the Perambalur toll plaza, even as Chief Minister M K Stalin was “patting his own back and boasting” in the state Legislative Assembly.
According to Palaniswami, the police vehicle was attacked while escorting a history-sheeter identified as Vellai Kali from Madurai for interrogation. The accused is linked to multiple criminal cases. Citing media reports, the AIADMK leader said four police personnel who were part of the escort team suffered serious injuries in the attack and were hospitalised.
“The incident clearly reflects the complete collapse of law and order in Tamil Nadu. It appears that criminals have absolutely no fear of either the police or this government,” Palaniswami said, questioning who the Chief Minister would hold responsible for the attack.
He further alleged that the DMK government was curbing the independence of the police. “I strongly condemn Chief Minister @mkstalin for not allowing the police to act independently,” he said.
BJP slams DMK government
Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran also condemned the incident, calling it “utterly shocking”.
“The throwing of a country-made bomb at policemen escorting a notorious rowdy near Thirumandurai in Perambalur district shows a steep decline in law and order under the DMK regime,” Nagenthran said in a post on X.
He added that the attack raised serious concerns over the safety of even uniformed personnel. “When even policemen are not safe, can this be called good governance?” he asked, accusing the government of focusing on social media optics while public safety was compromised.
