CP Radhakrishnan Succeeds Dhankhar, Signals BJP’s Shift in Style and Strategy
With Jagdeep Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation as Vice President, the BJP has named CP Radhakrishnan as his successor — a choice that underscores both a change in temperament and a recalibration of political priorities.
Dhankhar, elevated in 2022 amid Jat farmer protests, was seen as a tough enforcer whose sharp interventions and confrontational style in the Rajya Sabha drew frequent clashes with the Opposition. His sudden exit, officially for health reasons but preceded by controversial moves, left the BJP needing a steadier hand.
Radhakrishnan offers a stark contrast. A lifelong RSS and Jan Sangh member, he brings ideological grounding without Dhankhar’s baggage. Known for his calm, inclusive style, he has actively engaged in Tamil Nadu politics — pushing back against DMK leaders while avoiding open confrontation. His appointment also reflects the BJP’s twin strategy: reinforcing OBC outreach and strengthening its push in the South.
Party insiders say the choice is as much about parliamentary balance as it is about political messaging. Where Dhankhar was viewed as partisan and combative, Radhakrishnan is seen as better suited for consensus-building and institutional stability.
