Priyanka Chopra’s The Bluff becomes most-watched streaming original film despite mixed reviews

Priyanka Chopra stepped into the fierce Bloody Mary avatar for the R-rated pirate adventure The Bluff. While the film opened to mixed reviews, it is winning the streaming race and has emerged as the most-watched original film across OTT platforms worldwide.

The Bluff tops streaming charts

According to Variety, The Bluff has topped the Streaming Originals: Film chart, which compiled viewership data from February 27 to March 5. The film, released on Amazon Prime Video in February, racked up an estimated 300.3 million minutes of viewership.

It is followed by Anubhuti Kashyap’s psychological thriller Accused, which premiered on Netflix on February 27. Starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta, the film tells the story of a London-based gynaecologist who faces serious allegations of workplace sexual misconduct. Accused recorded 213.1 million minutes of viewership.

David Victori’s Firebreak, also released on Netflix, secured the third spot with 177.2 million minutes of viewership. It was followed by the documentary Paul McCartney: Man on the Run, directed by Morgan Neville and streaming on Prime Video, with 156.2 million minutes.

Ángel Manuel Soto’s The Wrecking Crew rounded out the top five, clocking 110.6 million minutes of viewership on Prime Video.

Fans of Priyanka Chopra celebrated the achievement online, with many praising her performance. Comments ranged from “She deserved it… she worked so hard for this” to “The Bluff rocks!” and “The Bluff was shockingly good.”

Set in the Cayman Islands, The Bluff unfolds against a gritty, high-octane backdrop filled with sword fights and gun battles. Chopra plays Ercell Borden, a fishwife living in a Caribbean town with her son and sister-in-law.

Her husband, sailor TH Borden (played by Ismael Cruz Córdova), has been captured by a pirate named Connor, portrayed by Karl Urban. As the threat closes in, Ercell must confront a past she tried to leave behind and embrace her alter ego — Bloody Mary, a feared pirate legend — to protect her family.

Directed by Frank E. Flowers, the film is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo and Angela Russo-Otstot under the banner AGBO.

The film has been streaming on Prime Video since February 25 and also features Safia Oakley-Green, Temuera Morrison, Zack Morris and David Field in supporting roles.
