Assam to Conduct Second Post-Mortem for Zubeen Garg Ahead of Funeral.
Assam will carry out a second post-mortem for singer Zubeen Garg on Tuesday, September 23, following public calls for clarification regarding his untimely death. The procedure will take place at Guwahati Medical College at 7:30 am, supervised by a team from AIIMS Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed.
Sarma clarified that the second autopsy is being conducted with the consent of Garg’s family, emphasizing that the initial examination in Singapore was thorough and technically sound.
“It is not a public demand but from certain fringe elements, and we have decided to conduct it with his wife’s consent. Personally, I was not in favour of ‘cutting up his body,’ but in a democracy, even minority demands are considered,” Sarma said.
Due to the post-mortem, the singer’s final journey will now begin at 9:30 am instead of 7:30 am. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated in Kamarkuchi NC village, ensuring the event reflects Garg’s stature and legacy.
In tribute, Assam Minister and AGP Working President Keshab Mahanta announced that 10 bighas of land have been allocated for a memorial at the site. Minister Atul Bora added:
“The memorial will honor the wishes of his family. Garg was immensely loved, and people from across Assam and India are coming to pay their respects.”
The second post-mortem and planned memorial highlight Assam’s commitment to honoring Zubeen Garg’s legacy while addressing public concerns surrounding his passing.
