PV Sindhu Lone Seeded Indian Singles Player at BWF World Championships 2025.

PV Sindhu is the only Indian singles player seeded at the upcoming BWF World Championships, set to take place from 25 to 31 August in Paris, France. She holds the 15th seed in the women’s singles draw, led by defending champion An Se Young of South Korea.

In contrast to 2023, when India had two men’s singles players seeded—HS Prannoy (9th) and Lakshya Sen (11th)—this year there is no Indian player among the top 16 men’s seeds. The seedings are based on the world rankings as of 8 August.

Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist and 2019 World Champion, seeks to regain form after a mixed season. Though she reached the quarter-finals at the India Open earlier this year, she has struggled to advance deep into subsequent tournaments.

Lakshya Sen, ranked 21st globally, has also faced inconsistency. He made the All England Open quarter-finals but faltered in the Asian leg, with a notable semi-final run at the Macau Open in July-August. Fans hope the former World Championship bronze medallist can elevate his performance once again.

Kidambi Srikanth, the 2021 World Championships silver medallist currently ranked 43rd, has shown signs of resurgence, reaching the Malaysia Masters final in May. However, he faces a challenging draw in Paris.

Doubles Teams Earn Seedings

Men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, former World No. 1s, are seeded ninth after strong performances in China and Macau. Women’s doubles duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are seeded 12th, while mixed doubles pair Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto hold the 16th seed.

Tournament Updates

Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen has withdrawn due to injury. The men’s singles top seeds include Shi Yuqi (China) and defending champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand, seeded third). The championships will feature 64 singles players and 32 doubles pairs in each category.
