Raja Shivaji continued its impressive run at the box office as Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious historical drama crossed the ₹60 crore mark on Day 9.

The film has remained steady despite weekday drops, with the Marathi version driving the majority of its collections. According to trade website Sacnilk, Raja Shivaji earned ₹5.60 crore net in India on Saturday, taking its total domestic collection to ₹61.45 crore.

The film had ended its first week on a solid note with ₹55.85 crore net collection. After opening with ₹11.35 crore on May 1, the historical epic witnessed strong weekend growth, collecting ₹10.55 crore on Saturday and ₹12 crore on Sunday.

As expected, collections dipped during the weekdays but remained stable overall. The film earned ₹5.60 crore on Monday, followed by ₹4.90 crore on Tuesday. It later collected ₹4.25 crore on Wednesday and ₹4 crore on Thursday before witnessing another jump heading into the second weekend.

Despite competition from Ek Din starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, Raja Shivaji continued to dominate audience attention. While Ek Din struggled to build momentum at the box office, Riteish’s film maintained a consistent theatrical run.

The historical epic traces the life and rise of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire. Riteish not only headlines the film in the titular role but has also directed and co-written the project. Genelia Deshmukh stars opposite him as Saibai.

The film boasts a large ensemble cast featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte. Audience reactions have also been strong for Salman Khan’s special appearance in the film.

Another major highlight has been the acting debut of Riteish and Genelia’s son, Rahyl, which has generated significant curiosity among viewers.

The film’s journey to release was far from smooth. Originally announced in 2016, the project faced repeated delays and was later pushed back further during the COVID-19 pandemic before finally going on floors again in 2023.

Riteish recently addressed speculation surrounding the film’s rumoured ₹100 crore budget during an interview on The Right Angle podcast. The actor-filmmaker dismissed the obsession with production costs and said audiences should focus on the cinematic experience rather than the budget figures being discussed online.

With positive word-of-mouth and the second weekend now underway, Raja Shivaji looks set to continue its strong performance at the box office in the coming days.
