Rajasthan Floods: 2 Dead, Dozens of Villages Submerged as Army, NDRF Step Up Rescue Efforts.
Relentless rains have triggered severe flooding across Rajasthan, leaving at least two people dead, dozens of villages cut off, and transport networks in disarray.
Authorities said hundreds have been evacuated to safer areas as the situation worsens in several districts. With more showers forecast, large-scale rescue operations are underway involving the Army, NDRF, and SDRF. The Air Force has also kept a Mi-17 helicopter on standby.
8 Districts Affected, Bundi Worst Hit
Eight districts are under distress, with Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Bundi facing the heaviest impact.
Bundi’s Nainwa recorded an unprecedented 502 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the highest in the state.
Two women lost their lives in separate incidents — one swept away by floodwaters in Bundi, and another crushed when a tin shed collapsed on farmland.
In Sawai Madhopur, more than 30 villages remain marooned as the Surwal dam overflowed, affecting over one lakh residents. In Bundi, localities such as Nainwa, Kapren, and Keshoraipatan remain underwater.
Rescue and Relief Underway
During one rescue attempt, a tractor carrying SDRF personnel and locals overturned, leaving a team member injured. Despite challenges, joint forces are continuing operations in the worst-hit areas.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has reviewed relief measures and ordered a special survey to assess crop and property damage. Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla also visited flood-hit areas and urged officials to speed up rehabilitation.
Transport, Connectivity Crippled
Floods have disrupted key transport routes. The highway connecting Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh is submerged, while major roads linking Kota to Jaipur and nearby districts are impassable. Rail services have also been suspended on several routes.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert, warning of more heavy rain in the coming days. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay indoors and remain vigilant.
