Tollywood actor Rana Daggubati on Saturday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Telangana for questioning in a case linked to the alleged promotion of an online betting app.

A senior police officer said the SIT examined Daggubati’s possible involvement in endorsing or promoting the platform, PTI reported.

After the session, the actor said he would help authorities spread awareness about the risks of online betting.
“What happened has happened. Now we will ensure the right message is communicated about these gaming apps,” he told reporters.

The state government set up the SIT, led by the Additional Director General of Police, CID, to investigate illegal betting networks, their promotional methods, and related financial transactions. Under the Telangana Gaming Act, 2017, all online betting is prohibited.

The probe intensified after complaints earlier this year that illegal betting apps were luring users with false promises of easy money, leading to widespread financial distress and even suicide cases.

Other celebrities — Vijay Deverakonda, Prakash Raj, Manchu Lakshmi — are also under investigation. App operators and social media influencers have likewise been booked under the Telangana Gaming Act, BNS, and the IT Act for promoting these platforms.
