Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Set to Become India’s Biggest Film, Makers Eye Global Blockbuster Status.

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is being billed as Indian cinema’s most ambitious project ever. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sunny Deol, and others, the two-part epic has a combined budget of nearly ₹4,000 crore ($500 million)—making it the most expensive Indian film to date.

Global Vision, Not Just Indian Audiences

Producer Namit Malhotra told the  that Ramayana is being created as a global film:
“I’m not making it just for Indian audiences. If people in the West don’t like it, I’ll consider that a failure. It has to speak universally.” Comparing the project’s scale to Avatar, Gladiator, and Christopher Nolan films, Malhotra emphasized that the goal is for believers and non-believers alike to connect with the story.

‘Emotions Cross Boundaries’

Director Nitesh Tiwari echoed this sentiment, noting: “Emotions are universal. If audiences connect with you emotionally, they will connect with the entire story.” IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond also predicted worldwide success: “Judging from what we’ve seen, this has all the elements to be a global blockbuster.”

Cultural and Cinematic Importance

Actor Kunal Kapoor, who plays Lord Indra, said the film holds deep cultural value and is being mounted on a scale “never seen before in Indian cinema.” He promised audiences a spectacular visual experience.
