Rani Mukerji Reveals Why Daughter Adira Couldn’t Attend National Awards.
Rani Mukerji recently won her first-ever National Award, taking home the Best Actress honour for her performance in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway. The ceremony, held in New Delhi, was an emotional moment for the actress, who was seen wearing a pendant engraved with her daughter Adira’s name.
In an interview with India Today, Rani revealed the reason behind the special gesture. She shared that Adira had wanted to attend the ceremony but was unable to do so because of official restrictions.
“She was howling because she wanted to be part of the National Award function,” Rani recalled. “We were told that children under 14 were not allowed. I had to tell her that she cannot be with me. She said it was ‘unfair’ that she couldn’t be with me on my special day. I told her not to worry and that I would carry her with me in another way.”
To honour her daughter’s wish, Rani wore the pendant as a symbolic gesture. “She’s my lucky charm. I wanted her with me, and this was the closest I could do,” she explained.
The actress added that social media reactions helped ease her daughter’s disappointment. “I want to thank everyone who made those reels and snippets on Instagram, writing that ‘Rani carried her daughter along.’ I showed them to Adira, and it calmed her down.”
Reflecting on her award-winning role in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, Rani said she had drawn inspiration from her own mother. “The only person I could think of was my mother. I modelled Devika’s character exactly on how she was and how she raised me. That was my closest reference point.
