Goodbye, But Not the End: Rohan Bopanna Calls Time on a Glorious Career.

Indian tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement from professional tennis, bringing down the curtain on a remarkable two-decade career that saw him lift two Grand Slam titles and inspire generations of players.

The 45-year-old, who played his final ATP match in Turin on Saturday, leaves behind a legacy built on resilience, longevity, and an undying love for the game. “I’ve lived my dream longer than I ever thought I would. Now it’s time for the next generation to chase theirs,” Bopanna said in his farewell message.

From Coorg to the World
Hailing from Coorg, Karnataka, Bopanna began playing tennis on local clay courts before rising through the ranks to become one of India’s most enduring athletes. While singles success proved elusive, he found his true calling in doubles — combining a booming serve, sharp reflexes, and remarkable court sense to become a global force.

He gained worldwide recognition as one half of the “Indo-Pak Express”, partnering Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi to reach the 2010 US Open final, a moment that symbolised sportsmanship beyond borders.

Grand Slam Glory and a Record-Breaking Finish
After years of near-misses, Bopanna finally clinched his maiden Grand Slam at the 2017 French Open, winning the mixed doubles title with Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski. Seven years later, he achieved his greatest triumph — the 2024 Australian Open men’s doubles crown with Australia’s Matthew Ebden, becoming the oldest Grand Slam champion in the Open Era at 43.
