Hockey India has announced the 18-member squad for the FIH Junior Men’s World Cup 2025, to be held from 28 November to 10 December in Chennai and Madurai.
The team features a balanced mix of experience and youthful talent, with defender and drag-flick specialist Rohit appointed captain after his impressive campaign at the Sultan of Johor Cup, where India won silver. India will compete in Pool B alongside Chile, Switzerland and Oman—who replace Pakistan this year.
The squad, coached by former India great PR Sreejesh, includes goalkeepers Bikramjit Singh and Princedeep Singh. The defensive group comprises skipper Rohit, Amir Ali (a member of the last Junior World Cup team), Anmol Ekka, Talem Priyo Barta, Sunil Palakshappa Bennur, and Shardanand Tiwari.
India’s midfield features Ankit Pal, Adrohit Ekka, Thounaojam Ingalemba Luwang, Manmeet Singh, and Rosan Kujur. The forward line includes Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, Arshdeep Singh, Ajeet Yadav, Dilraj Singh, and Gurjot, who made his senior debut at the ACT 2024. Ravneet Singh and Rohit Kullu have been named as alternates. Star striker Araijeet Singh Hundal misses the tournament due to a shoulder injury.
Rohit’s continued leadership reflects his growing influence, particularly in organising the defence and executing set-piece routines. Amir Ali adds valuable tournament experience, while Gurjot’s senior exposure is expected to strengthen the attack. The squad’s structure emphasises both attacking fluidity and defensive discipline.
Coach Sreejesh’s View
Sreejesh said the selectors prioritised players with proven temperament and the ability to handle World Cup pressure.
“We have chosen a tried-and-tested group with players who understand what it takes to compete at this level. Their physical ability, skills and team play were key, but mental strength under pressure was equally important.
“We’ve had strong international exposure in the lead-up and several sessions against the Senior India team at SAI Bengaluru. Performing well against senior players has boosted their confidence. We are an upbeat side and excited to play in front of the home crowd.”
